Annotation: <\/td>\nInsects are a dominant component of terrestrial biodiversity, and their evolutionary history is crucial for understanding past and present ecosystems. Cockroaches are among the oldest groups of insects and have played a significant role in terrestrial ecosystems as decomposers for hundreds of millions of years, supporting nutrient cycling in the environment. However, their full ecological and evolutionary history remains unclear. This project investigates fossil cockroaches through: 1) systematics, 2) taxonomy, 3) taphonomy, 4) paleoecology, and 5) paleogeography\u2014focusing on diversification, extinction, biotic interactions, and morphological variability. The material studied will come from Paleozoic sediments (~323\u2013298 Ma), Mesozoic amber and sediments (~251\u201366 Ma), and modern rainforests. Advanced methods, such as synchrotron tomography, SEM, IR spectroscopy and microscopy, are expected to yield new insights into the macroevolution and paleoecology of this resilient group of insects.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Annotation: <\/td>\nRapid changes in landscape and climate during the last centuries have been largely responsible for the decline ininsectivorous birds. These changes caused also decline in food and habitat diversity as well as negative rangetrends in several species. The food and habitat are crucial for the survival of a population, especially inspecialists. The project will evaluate food parameters in relation to environmental conditions in time series insome species of insectivorous birds (genera Merops, Lanius, Galerida) and, using acoustic playbackexperiments, also intraspecific interactions of some species (Acrocephalus). Assessment of foraging behaviorand vocalizations in specific habitats of these species will bring new, more complex scientific knowledge, helpexplain population and range trends and use them as indicators of landscape changes. Understanding thefunctional relationships of model endangered species could also improve a different approach in conservationmanagement compared to common species.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
